TV shows with a character that`s a pupp..

Post by Calmly Taken Flame »

ALF is NOT a puppet !

That was just a click-baity title, just in case Paul Fusco, or anyone else was reading, and felt the need to correct me for blasphemy !

Currently rewatching Sabrina The Teenage Witch, and the cat has me laughing in every episode, and it made me wonder if anyone
else has favourite shows, that have a character that is a pu...sorry...NON-human in it ?

Would love to hear if there are any shows similar, that have a character like this in it, that I`ve never heard of before.

Well, I had to bushwhack my way through the spam overload to get to this post, but I got here. I know of a show called Unhappily Ever After that has a non-human in it. I've never watched this show, and a quick google search tells me it's not streaming anywhere. However, I looked it up on YouTube and the complete series seems to be available there. Anyways, it was created by the same guy who created Married...With Children, so it seems to have a similar vibe. The non-human character is a bunny named Mr. Floppy. I don't even know how to describe it, so here's how Wikipedia describes him.
However, the series soon turned its focus to Jack Malloy, a schizophrenic, alcoholic, and lazy husband who was kicked out of the house in the pilot episode and, in a surrealistic mockery of both Alf and The Muppets, was living in an apartment with his imaginary friend: a foul mouthed, misanthropic, and sarcastic toy rabbit named Mr. Floppy (voiced by Bobcat Goldthwait).
Ok...the more I research this show, the more surreal it sounds. Again, I've never watched, just heard it brought up a lot. It was the first thing that came to mind when I read your post. Ball's in your court if you want to watch it.

On a related note, Salem is truly the star of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. All of his lines are great and memorable. My favorite thing about him is the sound he makes when he sobs. It always makes me laugh. I've never watched the remake they made of Sabrina, but I do know that the biggest mistake they made with that was taking away Salem's ability to talk.

Thank you Adeline ! That sounds like exactly the kind of show I was hoping someone would recommend !

The spam is getting so out of hand, it`s very disheartening to see the forum flooded with it all. Where have the mods all gone ?!

I`ll have a look on youtube for that show next, as I`ve never even heard of it before ! Reading your post, it made me think of the
rabbit character in the film Donnie Darko, and I wonder which one of them was made first, and if either of them inspired the other ?

I don`t like to read up on shows/films nowadays, I stopped watching trailers and reading anything about what I plan to watch, as I find
it can spoil what lies ahead, so I just go in blind now, whenever there`s something I see that interests me.

Salem was a star in the original Sabrina ! Melissa Joan Hart was a revelation in that show, for someone so young, she had incredible
comedic timing, and delivery, and having Salem and both Aunts to play off, really elevated her in that show, she was amazing !

And the cast in the early episodes all helped make it a really good show, but it lost its way after she moved to college. And the
less said about the final season the better ! It was HORRIBLE ! But at least they gave it the perfect ending !

Even with her performance, I don`t think that show would have been anywhere as popular, had Salem not been in the cast.

I did watch the first couple of episodes of the new Sabrina recently, and didn`t hate it ! It`s VERY different to the original, and
there was a murder, and blood, and all manner of darkness early on, so they clearly went in a different direction.

I think there were 36 episodes, so I might dive back into that at some point, and see if I can finish it.

Right, let`s go and see if I can find this naughty rabbit...

edit - criminal name spelling error !

This is turning out to be a stonking recommendation Adeline ! Half way through series 1, and enjoying it !

The wife sounds so much like Anne Meara ! And the husband sometimes looks, and sounds like Norm McDonald ! It`s so weird !

And the rabbit isn`t in it as much as I expected, but I have only just started on it.

Oh, and in the end credits of S1 episode 7...ALF get`s a mention !

I'm glad that the recommendation wasn't too bad! From the description of the show, the husband does seem like he would be played by Norm McDonald. I might try watching it sometime.
