I definitely prefer the Season 1 & 2 theme music. The Season 3 (which is where I'm up to) one sounds more like the theme for a pilot episode and, I think, a step backwards from the S1+2 theme.

I prefer Seasons 1 & 2 theme better.
I just think season3 & 4 music was "jazzzed" just for the sake of it and sounds like a fanmade rendition.

The original is softer and more sentiment to it, somehow, more in tone with ALF being stuck on earth. I think it would of been nice if they had gone back to the original theme for the very last episode. I think that would of worked better for the sad tone of ALF leaving the Tanners.

I think the season 3 & 4 theme is much more softer while the original one is more upbeat.

I like it from both seasons. There are two versions of the season 1 opening. The syndicated one is a lower octave and shorter and there is no shot of Kate putting the pie in the fridge with ALF trying to reach for it. Also there's one less shot of the living room in the syndicated opening. I much prefer the original season 1 opening. I like the season 3-4 as well, great saxaphone music.

The season 1&2 music is classic to my heart, but the season 3&4 music just has so much more personality. Plus, as someone already said, the saxophone was the mullet of the late '80s. Loved it.

I agree that the piano lead in the first and second season version of the theme has a more sentimental feeling, and I tend to prefer this version.

The saxophone version of the song is alright, but it somehow seems a little more artificial, and it loses some of the sentimentality.

That's just my personal feeling on it. There is still plenty of room for someone to defend the second version over the first.
