Re: Uncut DVDs
You'd have to look into it. Most NTSC players do not understand PAL and can not read them...some do (but I believe they are more pricey). Also, most newer computer DVD players will read PAL.
Alternate option: Convert the PAL DVDs to NTSC on your computer and burn them to a DVD...that would most likely fall under "Fair Use" in the copyright laws. Again, you'd have to look into it to be 100% sure.
I do have a question about the PAL DVDs for someone who has them. The English language sounds underneath, correct? Is it possible to turn on just English and listen to the DVDs in the English language? My guess is no, but I wanted to check.

I don't have the dvd's (yet) but from buying other foriegn dvd's the audio tracks are encoded seperately so yes, you would just turn on the english audio option.Admin wrote: I do have a question about the PAL DVDs for someone who has them. SwissALF .. thanks for the fantastic info. I was also forgetting USA S1 had two versions of the pilot episode on. My question is do the episodes have any german captions or subtitles on screen at all .. like episode titles or during episodes.
very excited about these dvd's!

Re: Uncut DVDs
Speaking of which, I am very afraid at the moment. If they cut that out, there is a BIG chance they will cut out ALF moonwalking, am I right? That was one of the funniest things I've seen on ALF so far, and I'd hate for that to happen

Re: Uncut DVDs
Oh, you thought that you'd still hear German but English underneath? No, no, no, that can't be. From what I'm told you can choose which language you want to have the episodes in, English only or German only. If you choose German only, you will not hear any English underneath, they cut out the original voices when they dub stuff in Germany.Admin wrote:You'd have to look into it. Of course! Otherwise there would be nothing to be excited about for anyone but Germans.

One thing about the DVD's - boy are they pricey. Could get the whole USA series for the price of season one .. worth it though.

The one thing about buying in a foreign currency is that it does not feel so expensive. I guess I'll have my shock when my credit card bill arrives!
I don't remember the Chipmunks song scene in "For your eyes only". I am so used to watching the syndicated version, and only saw the uncut version many years ago on TV. Does anyone remember where the Chipmunks scene occur in the story?SwissAlf wrote: In Episode 6 "For your eyes only" Warner had to remove the Chipmunks Song because of Music License Problems.
The Rest of the Episodes are full uncut.

Jacky,
While sitting at the dining room table in Jodi's apartment, ALF and Jodi are listening to, and signing along with, "The Chipmunks" song playing on the radio.

Re: Uncut DVDs
So it's true: these are the uncut episodes! I'm so happy about this, I must order it. The only thing that holds me back is - as someone mentioned above - the high price. I think I will try to be patient and wait until the price goes a little lower. I wonder how long I will be able to wait 'cause I'm dying to see the unedited episodes.

Re: Uncut DVDs
Awesome news, never thought we would see uncut episodes on DVD!
Does it have English credits and what's the picture quality like?
Looks like there is a Dutch version too, not sure if this is uncut though, anyone know?
I believe I have the For Your Eyes Only uncut episode on an old VHS, some episodes came out to buy over here in the UK, will try and convert soon.

Can anyone do the PAL to NTSC conversion for me? I wouldn't mind paying for time/hastle involved.

Re: Uncut DVDs
Just got my ALF Season 1 German set, very pleased so far.
It has a nice cardboard outer sleeve and fold out booklet, the default language is English with English credits.
The running times of the episodes are around 25 mins so without watching any in full yet I would say they are uncut, they also contain the old Lorimar TV logo at the end as originally broadcast, I believe this was changed for syndication (but cant remember for sure).
The menu screens are very basic but do the job, here are a few screen grabs:
Interestingly the set also contains a booklet of other Warner autumn 2009 DVD releases and ALF features quite strongly as a new for 2009 page, I will have to scan it so somebody may be able to translate. I'm pretty sure this uncut set will start to appear in other European countries soon.
Cant believe ALF isn't available on DVD in the UK, he was massive here!
