alf looks different in the opening

in the opening when alf breathes on the camera he runs to the other side and a different looking alf comes in and stands with the family someone dressed as alf in a costume can anyone confirm im right

You're right.

In seasons 1 and 2 they used a little man (Michu Mészáros - who is Hungarian like I am) dressed in an Alf costume in scenes where Alf's whole figure is visible and he's walking. They used the puppet in all the other cases.

Yes, since Michu stopped being ALF you didn't see the whole ALF that often in the later seasons.
