Guys, this is a forum, not an IM chatroom. Sorry if I'm stepping out of my position here; I just thought you should know.

Hey there. Not to fuel the "chat" fire here. I just thought that I would jump in with a couple of things. I seem to vaguely remember this special. It is possible that I have it on tape somewhere as my mom used to record all things ALF for me, with the exception of the Saturday morning cartoon. Not sure why she neglected to tape it. But I do remember seeing some clips with ALf talking to Jackee and Betty White. If I ever come across it on my old videos (I have a couple thousand video tapes) I will do what i can to get it on here.

However one thing puzzles me as I read the previous posts. I see quite a few people on here saying that ALF was shown on Friday nights. On my old VHS tapes I still have advertisements that clearly show it was aired on Monday nights. Amazing stories followed it during at least part of that time. That is what The Family Dog aired on.

Later near the end of the third season or begining of the fourth, I remember seeing commercials advertising ALF's move to Friday nights. I even remember asking my mom why they would move it to another night. Anyway, thats definately how it was in my area (Tacoma Washington) and at least one night in Nevada. I remember a family trip to Reno and having to make sure that we were in the hotel room so that i could watch ALF on that Monday night (the episode where we first meet Kate's mother Dorothy).

Does anyone remember a short lived series that aired after that episode (first episode with Dorothy) of ALF? Just curious. I can't remember what it was called, only that it was made up entirely of "muppet" looking puppets. Not sure if it was in any way a Jim Henson production or not, but the puppets looked a lot like his work even though they were "human" puppets not like kermit or gonzo.

Anyway, I am just curious as this had to have aired around the same time frame as the special. Oh, and just in case anyone is interested and doesn't happen to know, The Family Dog also had a very short lived series of its own. It came on during the summer a couple of years after the Amazing Stories episode. I think it only had maybe 4-6 episodes. As i recall none of them were anywhere near as good as the Amazing Stories episode though.

MR. Littwack, I'm impressed! Not only do you have such an extraordinary memory, but you're a dedicated fan! I wasn't around in '86, so I can't remember as far back as to recall what days it aired. But I remember on the Season One DVD, ALF is calling some agency trying to talk about his show. I remember him saying something like "Yeah, remember me? Furry orange guy? Monday nights?"

But I don't recall anything with ALF and other muppets. The only spin-offs and specials that I remember featuring him were ALF: The Animated Series, ALF Tales, ALF Loves a Mystery, Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, and of course, Project: ALF.

Yeah, it seems the further back I try and remember, the better my memory is. Ask me what happened five minutes ago and I couldn't tell you. but go back twenty years and I'll tell you what happened and what kind of under-oos I was wearing at the time.

The show I am refering to was actually on after ALF. It didn't have anything to do with ALf other than that. Sorry for the confusion. I remember a commercial for this as well. For some reason the puppets just kept saying "laugh, laugh, laugh" during part of the commercial. I seem to remember catching a minute or two of the premiere episode while on the Reno trip I mentioned. Anyway, glad to hear I am not insane about the Monday night thing though. Hopefully someone can help me remember the name of the "puppet" show though. thanks for the response!

I've got the "ALF Loves a Mystery" special coming in the mail next week (not from pacman23, but from a different collector of Saturday morning airings I found on another website). I will upload it to YouTube as soon as I can!

Just wanted to post that I haven't forgotten about this...I am having trouble ripping the DVD to my computer (I do not have the software or means to do so). Any tips or advice on free programs that will do this for me? I'd like to make an MPEG file and put on YouTube.

I always use Handbrake to rip my DVDs it's for PC and Mac and is a free download, it produces great iTunes and you tube mp4's.
You can download it here:

Quality isn't the greatest, but it is still a great watch. I also could not upload it to YouTube...not sure why yet. Enjoy!

Ahhh, YouTube videos can only be 15 minutes max (for standard users like myself)...I'll need to split it into two parts.
