#19 Wild Thing

Post by ALFicionado »

Production #1018 - 2 Mar 87

ALF, beginning to go through a Melmacian personality transformation, warns the Tanner family that he must be locked up for 24 hours during this period in which he will experience wild, erratic behavior - - but he escapes before the day is over.

Written By: Stephen Sustarsic and David Silverman
Directed By: Nancy Heydorn

Title: The title alludes to a 1966 cover song by the English band The Troggs with the same name.

I find his so-called "erratic behaviour" quite disappointing. He's just basically more bent on getting a cat. His warning made it sound as if he'd turn into a monster. And it's strange that he wasn't even caught or spotted when he nabbed the tiger from the zoo.

I was pretty satisfied with his behaviour, he seemed pretty crazy to me and could do these amazing voice impressions all of a sudden. Not my favorite episode of the season though, it gets a strong 3 from me.

But he could do those voice impressions before his phase started, right? In fact, he's always been able to impersonate voices.

He has? In which other episode did he do that? I may have forgotten about it in that case.

Well, he impersonated the Green Acres voices. Did I get the name right? I remember it was Green-something. And when he was testing out the cage that the Tanners made for him, he hadn't entered the phase yet, had he?

Not sure I remember anything about the Green Acres thing and yes, he was in that phase when he made those voices. Just when it started.

Yep, the episode where ALF imitates Green Acres is "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" in season 2.

The first episode with Lynn without braces.

I love the voice impersonations.

FYI, I always liked Jimi Hendrix's cover of Wild Thing.

What a hilarious episode. So many hilarious and memorable quotes. Like 'Oh my god, I should have predicted this. - What ? - We're running out of these little flags.'

And my personal favorite:

I just watched the episode wild thing and i had a question (could also be a plot error as well) How in the heck did alf get the tiger that he kidnapped from the zoo back home. Most certainly it wasnt on the lawnmower. only way i can think of is walked it back home. What do u think?

Lol, that's a good question. ALF was of course going through a significant metabolic shift. He sort of went berserk, which makes me think he may have had super-strength during his frenzy. He may have actually been physically able to either control the tiger with a rope or chase the tiger back to the garage. Who knows?

One of my all-time favorite episodes of the series. Watching ALF go berserk always makes for a good 24 minutes. "I want that cat!" I have the original NBC summer 1987 rerun version of this episode on DVD, uncut.
"Before you get up for that final snack, I want you to know I'll be right back. HA!"

A strong 4 rating for me, i also think this is the episode where alf's ruff voice had completely diminished.
