New ALF Neca figures

Post by ilovealf88 »

ALF: I had a cousin. Pretty Boy Shumway. If he didn't like your shoes...
[imitating gun sound] "ak-ak-ak-ak-ak."
Willie: He'd shoot a person because he didn't like his shoes?
ALF: No. He'd just point at you and go, "Ak-ak-ak-ak-ak."

With the rock one, it looks like they combined his Springsteen and Elton John outfits from “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” with the shirt from the “Born to Rock” Burger King puppet. Either way, I’m loving it.

It’s kinda late to mention this for anyone relying on pre-sales, but they also made a convention-exclusive shirt. It’s a reproduction of an old “ALF for President” shirt. Just a heads up for anyone going to SDCC.

Aren`t Neca the figures that are poorly made, and the joints break after some time ? I collect vintage toys, and there were a load of videos about the poor quality of Neca figures, and people defending them, saying you had to soak them in warm water before putting them together ?

If I have the wrong company, then my apologies, and hopefully someone can clear it up, but I`m sure it`s this brand.

I'm not sure. I know that they do tend to be brittle, but since I just have my ALF NECA figures on display, I'm not sure how durable they are. However, the ham radio on my ultimate ALF broke when I was posing it. So did the hand strap on the video camera of my Cosmic Con ALF, for the same reason. As for the actual figure, the only part that's remotely brittle might be the comb-over. Usually the accessories are more brittle than the figure, but I could be wrong. The only NECA figures I own are their ALFs, so it might be different for the other figures.

If you plan to just pose it, and leave it alone for years, then you should be OK. I think the problem with these figures
is when people keep changing the pose once a week, and it weakens the joints, and they can break off.

Hope you managed to repair your ALF figures, and are still able to display them OK ?

Unfortunately I have not been able to repair it (mainly because I don't have the time). However, it's hardly noticeable with the camera. I have the figure holding it, so the broken strap is hidden behind his hand. As for the ham radio, it honestly looks better broken. When it broke, it broke the mic stand close to the microphone holder. now I have the figure holding the microphone. They still look pretty nice on display.

I`d leave it as it is, and know you have something that is possibly quite unique in the ALF collecting world.....a BROKEN radio !!

If ALF had his hands on it, chances are it would get broken anyway, along with everything else he touched !

I`d be tempted to make it into a diarama, and have people around him wondering who broke it, if any other characters exist as figures ?

True! I've never thought of it like that. I guess that's why it looks natural every time I see it.

Also, I do have it in a diorama, but it's the Cosmic Con ALF filming the Ultimate ALF with his video camera. It kinda looks like he's doing a news report or something because of his mic. Since NECA has made so many ALF figures, maybe they could try some figures of the Tanners. The Tanners have hardly been merchandised (except for books), so it would be interesting to release some Tanner figures. I would love to have a Willie figure alongside Gordon :D .

That`s awsome ! Would love to see a pic of this if you`re able to share one, I haven`t yet checked so many of the
sub forums, it might already be here, and I`ve not got to it yet ! Trying to slowly work through the forum, instead
of just spending a whole day reading and bumping everything !

I can see why they never made figures of the Tanners, although it`s such a shame they never did. I`ve never really looked
into the different figures and merchandise that is out there, and I`ve enough Star Wars and Lego in my house as it is !

And I know that as soon as I see them, I`ll want them !

NECA showed their new releases at SDCC, and apparently we're getting a third ALF figure. This one's called "Totally 80s ALF" and he looks pretty good. He's got a game console with a Space Invaders cartridge, a couple slices of pizza, a skateboard, a Rubik's cube, a phone, a can of Fusco soda (it's different from the can in the original ultimate figure), a pair of sunglasses, and a television, which displays a scene from the opening sequence of the animated series. He's also got a nice self-promoting shirt on.

Also, the box for the "Born to Rock" figure was displayed. It's really neat, as it's designed like a cover of Rolling Stone magazine. It even has a mailing address on it, addressed to the Tanners.

Like the look of that, and it comes with a lot of accessories, but I`ll bet it`s not cheap, if it ever does get released !

They're usually around $40 + tax and shipping. Not very cheap, but the figures are always nice.

Besides an ALF Shirt and the DVDs I have no ALF merchandise at home. My dad has an ALF birthday card back from his 18th birthday I believe. He used to have an ALF clock and Bouillabaisseball-Cards back in the days, but unfortunately they were lost somehow.

I think this new NECA figures are really nice and I definitely want them. But I wonder: How many different NECA figures of ALF are there? I just want to be sure that I don't miss one that I would have liked.

NECA has gotten a lot of mileage from their original ALF action figure. Including the ones currently on pre-sale, they have made: the Ultimate ALF (their first one, wearing the patterned shirt from the cartoon), the Cosmic Con ALF (an exclusive for SDCC 2023, they're probably on eBay being sold for way more than they originally were), the Born to Rock ALF (currently on pre-order, he's dressed like he was in the music video), the Super ALF (a SDCC 2024 exclusive, again probably on eBay for way more), and the Totally 80s ALF (this one was revealed at SDCC 2024; I don't believe it's on pre-order yet). Additionally, they made two action figures from their "Toony" line. These are based on the animated series. One of them is wearing the patterned shirt and the other is dressed in a Bouillabaseball uniform.

The original Ultimate ALF is probably the easiest to get. I've seen them at Walmart and Target, but you can also get them online. It's a pretty nice sculpt. Definitely would be a nice addition to your collection :D .

Also, I'm curious as to what your dad's ALF birthday card looks like. I've never seen one that was officially licensed, but I do know that the officially licensed ones from the 80s exist and, I believe, they're pretty rare.

Thank you for this really good overview! Now I can be sure what´s out there and I think I will try to get all(well, all that are available...).

Now to the card: I hadn´t seen it in a long time, but I have checked it a few minutes ago. It is not specifically a birthday card, but a general greeting card that was used by my grandparents as a birthday card. My father got it for his 17th birthday, so it was given to him on 17th October 1988. ALF had just started airing here in Germany in January of the same year and my father instantly had become a fan.
The card is indeed officially licensed, as it has ALIEN Productions and All Rights reserved on its back. I will scan the card in the next days and upload it here in the forum, so that you will be able to see it.

Interesting to read about the different figures, thank you for posting up all the info !

Had a look at them, and they`re pretty cool, and surprised if they`re only $40 as well, thought they`d be double that.

I don`t own a single ALF item, aside from the DVD`s. I had a quick look on ebay to see what`s out there, from the UK, and it all seems
to be plushies. And I`ve never seen a single ALF item in a charity shop either, when given he was on pretty much everything, back in the
day, is a surprise. So I`ll make sure to grab the first thing I see in one of those shops, that has ALF on it.

Would love to see that card also !

I learned of yet another ALF figure from NECA at Actionfiguren24, the shop I ordered my figures(except for the Cosmic Con ALF; I got that one from ebay because it's way too much in the aforementioned shop).

I'm not sure if I will get this one though, as I'm not a big fan of Body-Knocker-Figures.

Here's the link to it(I have not searched which american shops will have it) :

i've seen this one online too. It's just on pre-order at the moment, so I'd probably wait until it actually releases and I can find some reviews. Most of the Body knockers do tend to look cheap-looking. This one doesn't look as cheap, but I guess the details make it look nicer. Like you said, I'm not sure if I would buy this one either. I have the Head Knocker they made, but I think that one was made of better materials. Still, I'll have to wait until it comes out. In America, it's only $14 + shipping and taxes. Decently cheap, but I'm not sure about the appearance. It's like something's off about the proportions or coloring.

Here's the link to it on Entertainment Earth for anyone in the states: https://www.entertainmentearth.com/prod ... 5RBo_jJKaa

Apparently the Born to Rock ALF and the Totally 80s ALF can be ordered now at NECAs online shop, at least for US fans.
I wonder when I get them here in Europe.
