Who Or What Is It?

I have just been wondering,who or what is Yahoo BOT and Google BOT.Just wondering because it is a weird name no offense,and it seems like it is on all the time.

Pretty sure I know the function of the various BOTs that appear on Forum as registered members; however, since the BOTS were introduced to the Forum by Admin, I will defer to him to answer your question.

Oh,I forgot about MSN BOT.

The bots in question (Google, Yahoo!, MSN) come by the website and "index" all the pages. This way, when someone searches for something (i.e. ALF garbage can) the appropriate page will show up in search engine results.

I own a forum with the same software and there are around 50 or so bots that can be activated to search the site.

It's the same thing. The terms spider, bot (robot), and crawler are used interchangeably when it comes to search engine lingo.

bingbot and googlebot are always in here, and I often end up sandwiched between them as I post !

If only they could talk, this place would be thriving !
