How do you look at ALF?

Post by ALFicionado »

How do you look at the old ALFer in real life? As a puppet? A midget in a costume? Or as an Alien? I've gotta tell ya, as soon as I see any info on how the puppet worked, or the costume, or anything related to that, I just push the back button and close my eyes 'til it goes away, he IS ALF to me, as simple as that. He's an alien life force. I know I'm in denial but it makes me happy :)

I see ALF as a victim to syndication cuts and poor DVD distribution management by Lions Gate Entertainment.

lol, I like that one - I suppose I could see it that way as well. When I watch I see ALF as an alien (even though he IS a puppet/costume/etc. in real life). When I watch ALF I get so buried in the episode that I don't even think of such things.

I also think of ALF as an alien version of Ernest P. Worrell. They're both clumsy. At times they don't know what they're doing. They don't swear or blasphemize, which is a good thing, although ALF did it once in "Try to Remember".

I didn't know that sometimes the truth could be so funny. I do feel sorry for ALF that he has to deal with a distributor like Lions Gate and the fact that his tv show is not on t.v. anywhere here in California.

I don't think as ALF as a puppet or a guy in a suit, I think of him as an alien. In fact, I am surprised no one as come up with a conspiracy theory that ALF is an actual alien whom Paul Fusco aided by giving him a hit telelvision series where everyone would think he was just a puppet or a guy in a suit. More outrageous ideas than that have been circulating.

ALF can also be considered an out-of-control trouble maker. Just ask Paul Fusco and Tom Patchett.

I see him as different things at different times. For example when he's running/walking, I view him as a midget in a costume, but when he's sitting down or we see him above the waist, I see him as a puppet (and of course with Paul Fusco's voice). This probably happens because I read all the trivia and credits before actually watching the show. But most of the time I see him as an alien from Melmac.

Yo Axel, this is an interesting question.
To me, Alf is a real person. With a few exeptions, Alfs character is so consistent that I feel he´s a real person that I know. For me its not a problem to know how the puppet works and stuff like that. However I was a bit unhappy when I accidentally saw a picture of Paul Fusco. Before that it was easier to look at Alf as a real person.
How great it would be to have Alf living in my apartment screaming -HEEEY Patmestier, when I come home. The downside would be that he would destroy my apartment when Im not home(like he did with uncle Neils apartment) :D
Find out what you dont do well - then dont do it!

I see Alf as a person, as he's very real to me. And I don't even know what all of you are talking about, puppets and such, I mean cmon it's Alf! The one that we've known for so long!

Axel, I am curious. In your first posting on this thread
I've gotta tell ya, as soon as I see any info on how the puppet worked, or the costume, or anything related to that
You may have seen my other post asking how the puppet worked. do you have a link to a site that says?

ALF has always seemed real to me. Even as a kid I knew he was a puppet, but I never really thought of him like that. He was, is and always will be ALF to me.

But at the same time I am very curious as to how the puppet worked. any help would be appreciated Axel.

I'm glad other people have said they think of ALF as an alien. At least I'm not the only one, hehe. I mean, I KNOW he's a puppet/person in a costume, but in a way, I do think he's a real alien. Most of us here have prob. never seen the puppet or the suit in person, so how can we know for sure?

I see ALF as an alien. It's a little hard to do when they show him head to toe and moving, for some reason, even when I was 12, that never looked right. But I think of him as an alien the same way I think of Jabba the Hutt or Ewoks.

I had someone say to me the other day, "Oh, ALF...he was that talking monkey on TV!"

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I was training a new employee and we were talking about favorite TV shows and of course I brought up ALF.

It's just too bad that some people see him as a talking dog, talking monkey, etc. Had to rant and bring this up.

Talking monkey!

If you had been ALF, you might have said:

Talking monkey! We hired you because we thought that's what YOU were!

But, in that case, it's probably a good thing you're not ALF.

I agree with most of your posts, I see alf as a midget walking around when they show the full costume, which btw, to me, they should have done the costume a little better to make it look like alf lol, but mostly I just see him as alf. I don't see the puppet thing, and I haven't seen anything about how the puppet works, thank goodness! :)
