Hello all!

Post by ALF FIN SANE »

Hi all! Nice forum you got!

Just a little story how I fell in love with ALF :). My first contact with ALF must have been 88-90 at my friends home. I remember watching it occasionally. I used to read ALF comics, I had few of them myself, but my friend was a subscriber. My father bought me some ALF stickers too. I did like ALF and I liked the show, but it wasn't nothing special I guess.

Somewhere between 96-98 ALF aired second time here. I was about 16-18 years old then. It was a perfect daytime show, starting after 3PM right after school. If I got home later, I got it on tape every day. This time around I fell in love with the show. I'm still mad about the fact how the fourth season ended. Consider Me Gone was just another episode for me until that "to be continued", well nothing special about that, but the subtitles said "end of the series" instead of "to be continued"! I was shocked, I thought it was some kind of mistake. I looked tv-program guides and it really did say "Blossom" or "Boy Meets World" or some other show taking ALFs spot. After that I got to knew the situation and was left hoping for another rerun (that hasn't happened - yet). I can say I've been waiting for ALF DVD releases afrer 2001 when I got my first DVD player :). Next big step was when I read about American releases and it actually happened, I was disappointed that the episodes are syndicated, but it was ALF nonetheless. I thought that ALF was quite a big hit at the time in Europe, so it will be released here too in no time. I do collect great movies and series on DVD, so every week I check new releases... always hoping for ALF. There is no series that I wait more than ALF.

I'm positive they will release it here some day, but it has been 10 years I've last seen ALF and that's way too long. I found a way to make my DVD player multiregional, but the subtitles would be nice. I think I would be fine with english subs, but I really am not sure. If any channel aired ALF I could record it on DVD, but this is not likely at the moment. Now I'm getting more and more sure that I REALLY have to order the first season, it would be like a test. Euro rate favours me so that is encouraging me to do this :). Anyway, nice to see ALF fans gather and not forgot this great tv-comedy!

Welcome to the forum!

If you have any questions please feel free to send me a private message at any time.

Out of curiosity, have you seen the Project: ALF movie yet? It gives some closure to the "to be continued" last episode of the sitcom.

Ok, I had to order Project: ALF movie and the first season. Too bad that the availability is 7-12 days at Amazon, but I guess I can wait for that + shipping (about 7-10 days) after all these years :).

I missed the second episode when ALF last time aired here + I read there is some unaired pilot too. It's going to be long couple of weeks...

Yes indeed :). I would have liked to make an invasion in Las Vegas this year too, I mean I'm a basketball fan and they hosted the 2007 event. It was a first time in a place with no own team in the city, you definitely should have one!

Thanks to you too for welcoming me!

Nothing against basketball, but both myself and many other local residents would just as soon never see the NBA AllStar Game return to Las Vegas. The event brought lots of the "wrong crowd" (gang members from Southern California, out of town pimps with thier hookers, and laws are for common people sports and music celebrities with their entourages) resulting in major security problems for police, casinos, and retail business.

Wow, I didn't know that. Soccer is the number one for me, I like many kind of sports as a hobby or just to watch it on tv and it's allways sad to hear a sports event ends up something definitely not meant to. I would like to head for regular season NBA or NFL matches someday then...

Well, didn't find better place to pass my thoughts. I finally got my ALF season 1 DVD yesterday. Today I placed another order at Amazon (season 2). Still haven't got the Project ALF though, I got it from ebay seller- I hope it arrives soon.

To describe my feelings about finally seeing ALF again, after too many years, is hard. This is still just a tv-show (maybe the best one at that though), but yesterday was special for me. ALF really did cheer me up. Last week was a sad one, we had a tragedy in our country and feelings were low. I didn't have the best week myself either. I had pretty hectic week and I we also got confirmation that my girlfriend has been chosen for student exchange to South America for spring season. I was prepared for that, but mentally maybe not enough. We have been together for years so it was sad (being departed for half a year) and great at the same time (for her and her studies, and it's a fantastic experience). I'm feeling much much better about the whole situation now !voy a America del Sur en proximo año ja ja ja! :)

Anyway about ALF. Yesterday I noticed that ALF dvd had arrived, so I decided to make an evening as confortable as possible. I ordered pizza, had a lot of ice cream and mint chocolade and soda :). I watched three episodes straight and had great time. First episode was clearly on my memory, I guess it's quite unforgettable.

Best things are that after a long time, the episodes feel fresh and there must be couple of that I've never seen before. It was nice seeing ALF on the intro being as funny as ever, also the comments about each episode is a nice. Small let down was that I couldn't find no subtitles, but I did great without them, so "no problemo"! The best thing is that ALF is still as great as I had remembered it to be. Now, back to work and I'll meet ALF in the evening!

ALF FIN SANE,

Here's an idea you might try. Invite your boss to watch an episode of ALF. Perhaps he/she will be so impressed that ALF Holiday established at work where everybody takes off and comes to your place to watch ALF.

Need anymore great ideas, just let me know.

I envy that feeling of just getting the first season after not have seen ALF for such a long time, I hope you enjoy every minute of the season!

Out of curiosity, which South American country is it that she will be spending time in?

ALFanatic: heh, if I need a great idea, I'll know where to get them :). Actually I have to bosses he&she, but what if they want to come to my house on weekends too! By the way, I couple of years ago I told my friend about my desire to get ALF on DVD, he asked "you mean that show from the 80's, with the dog in it?"

AxelFoley: yes, agree with that. It's a shame I haven't seen ALF in years, but the positive side is that it really feels special now. I watched 5 episodes yesterday. She will be spending time in Costa Rica, she leaves in January, not sure about the date yet. I'm going there in March maybe. I'm not afraid of flying, but I don't like those seats and sitting still for a long time. If ALF travelled for six light years, maybe I can do with 20 hours total :).

Costa Rica is actually in Central America though ;) I'd have a hard time flying for 20 hours as well so I feel your pain :)

Yep, you are correct, never skip a geography lesson that's my advice :). Should have said Latin America, that would have saved me. Last time I wasn't sure was it Chilean or Costa Rican university she was selected, so I couldn't refer to any country.
