Anybody Still Here?

Post anything you want here. This is the place where you get away from it all. In short, this is a forum for "chit-chat" and things of that sort.

Anybody Still Here?

Post by Adeline McQuack »

Since it feels like the forum's slowly becoming abandoned, I decided to start this thread to see if anybody's still here. In the past week, there has been a bit of a resurgence on here, but it seems like it's only 5 or so people (including me) posting. So, in order for everyone to see (maybe some guests who could become members) that we're still an active forum, I think it'd be great for everyone who plans on remaining an active ALF TV fan forum member to reintroduce themselves to the forum. Hopefully, the forum won't become abandoned.

I'll go first:
I'm Adeline McQuack (I'd really like to change my username but I guess I'm stuck with it). I've been an ALF fan since 2020, and a member of this forum since 2021. I've got an idea for a sequel series to ALF, but I doubt it'll ever see the light of day. I dive unnecessarily deep into the lore of the franchise...and it's weird, but you get used to it.

I'm proud to be a member of this forum and don't want to see it die. Now it's your turn to reintroduce yourself to the forum :D .

Hello Adeline,

it's a great idea to bring new life to this forum. I hope that we could have more conversations here in the future. I believe everybody who visits the forum from time to time thinks he/she is alone here and has therefore not much ambition to come back...
Of course, we all have other things in our lives going on, but I try to visit this forum on a regular basis.

Now to my own reintroducing: I am an ALF fan since 2014, so it's my 10 year anniversary this year. I knew ALF before, in fact I cannot remember a time when I first heard of it, it was always a part of my life. When I was a little child, I saw bits of the show, and I remember that I was a bit scared, but not by ALF himself: I always had a very vivid fantasy, and at nights I sometimes had nightmares including creatures that were looking like they were modelled after ALF, but were not actually him. But that is 19 years ago now, I remember that I was 5 years old at the time of the nightmares.

When I was 14, there was a rerun of ALF on a german TV channel. I decided that I wanted to see the series from its very start, so while my family was watching in the living room, I was watching in my room on youtube(every episode was there at the time; I believe that it also included the original version of "Try to remember"). As I always dive very deep into everything I get interested in, I soon knew that there was an prequel in form of an animated series, so I tried to watch these episodes first. I stopped doing that, because there weren't every episodes on youtube and I found them not as good as the sitcom. When I had reached the episode that was actually airing at the time, I started to watch again with my family in the living room. At Christmas, I got the european box set and we started to watch the whole series again.

I joined this forum last summer, still not a full year ago. Like you Adeline, I have my ideas about a sequel series that I would love to actually produce one day; of course this seems unrealistic now.

My other interests are:
Star Trek
Disney-Comics(Carl Barks, Don Rosa, Floyd Gottfredsson, Romano Scarpa, Marco Nucci, Andrea Castellan and lots of others; I have a big collection of over 700 Disney-Comic books)
Music(mostly music from the 60s to 80s; but I also really appreciate classical music)
Back to the Future
Quantum Leap(the european Blu-Ray release includes the original music; for those interested)
Classic movies(including those of the very early aage, like the Laurel&Hardy comedies)
Novels and short stories from different authors and decades

Besides all this I am very interested in genealogy and therefore do research in archives. And I am a big animal lover. Over the years I had budgerigars, rabbits and a Golden Retriever. It was always hard to lose them, so after the sudden death of my dog from cancer two years ago, I decided that I could not have anoher animal for a while. But I am sure that I will someday share my home with an animal again.

That's all I have to say about myself at the moment. Who else is still here?

I`ve been reading these forums, for what must be 20 years now. The earliest post I`ve come across on here, was from 2004, and I
know that over the last 20 years, I did have a look online now and then, find the forum, have a quick read, and then leave.

But this time I actually signed up ! But I imagine there are still loads of ALF fans out there, but that most, don`t expect there to be
news, so they rarely check the forums, but when they do remember ALF, and come and have a read, there will be a nice surprise
for them, with all the new posts in the last couple of weeks !

As AlfAlfa_26 says, people would see no new posts, and then leave it another year before visiting again.

A complete ALF boxset was on my wishlist for a LONG time, but it was only about 6-7 years ago, that I finally bought it on ebay, and
I`m currently enjoying my 3rd rewatch since then. And seeing this forum still going after at least 20 years makes me very happy.

If Melmacian`s have a life span of 600+ years, then I`d hope this forum is still around in 2342 when we all visit as heads in a jar ! :D :D

Adeline - As I`ve gone through old posts, something I see a lot are people who have changed their usernames, either by someone in
another post calling them something different, or asking for a change, and Admin has been happy to oblige and change their name.

But Admin hasn`t logged in for a while, I did see a post about 10 minutes ago, that could be a reason why they`re away, and busy, but
hopefully they are safe and well, and when they log in again, and see all these new posts, will be happy to see the forum active again !
