Quantum Leap

Post by AlfAlfa_26 »

The same year I became an ALF-Fan(2014), I started watching "Quantum Leap"(1989-1993, starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell), which is titled "Zurück in die Vergangenheit"(Back to the past) in germany. On a side note: After the success of "Back to the future", which was correct translated as "Zurück in die Zukunft", in 1985, other time travel stories got a similar title, most likely to gain more viewers by jumping on the bandwagon. "Star Trek IV-The voyage home" in 1986 was therefore titled "Zurück in die Gegenwart"(Back to the present).

I couldn´t complete watching and stopped after the second season 10 years ago, because the airing channel changed the time slot and so I missed a lot of episodes(I had an automated recording programmed). Now, years later, I ordered the german Blu-Ray release and started watching again. In a season 5 episode("One little heart"), Max Wright appears as a doctor in a small role. Other actors, which appeared as guests, have also made guest appearances in ALF, for example Kenneth Tigar, who appeared in the "Quantum Leap"-episode "The last gunfighter" and played the FBI agent who suggests that Kate should give Willie some shoes on next fathers day in the episode "Wanted: Dead or alive".

What I found very intersting is that an officer in the "QL"-episode "Raped" was named Shumway. It didn´t seem like an allusion to ALF, because the episode and the role had absolutely nothing to do with ALF. I had never heard the name "Shumway" outside of ALF to this date, but searching on the internet brought me some new information: apparantly Shumway is indeed a real name; there are even places in the US with the name:

I`d just started watching Quantum Leap when you made this thread, and I had to avoid the forum until I`d finished watching it ! :D

I never saw it when it first aired back in the 90`s, and a friend of mine gave me a big box of DVD`s recently, and amongst them
was the complete series of this, and so I dived into it. I then saw a mention of it on here, with Max Wright being in an episode.

And then another mention of it, in the unedited recordings thread, and then you made this thread, and I panicked, and thought this
is the Universe trying to spoil it for me, and give away the ending before I reach the final episode ! :D :D

Thankfully I managed to watch the finale last night, and I got to the end and without any spoilers !

I see what you mean about the music in it, as there was a LOT of it in there, that would likely be claimed as copyright, and
cause an issue with getting a complete set released, and shown exactly as it was back when it was first shown.

Won`t risk posting any spoilers, just in case you also haven`t reached the end, and I`d feel awful if I spoiled it for you !

When you made this post, I still hadn't reached the end, so I didn't read your post until now! Now I know that I won't ever have to fear spoilers from you! :D
I watched the last episode last night, but I won't post anything specific here, in case somebody will come here who hasn't seen the series so far, but want's to do so.

I'm glad that you seem to have the original versions with the correct music, too.
I guess, now it's time for us to watch the sequel series from 2022...

I always try and avoid spoilers if I can, as I know how awful it is when you go to watch something, and someone tells you the end !

There was an old UK TV show called Sapphire & Steel, and about 5 years ago, I`d recorded a load of episodes off the TV, and was ready
to watch them, and I messaged a friend of mine that I was going to start watching it. He then replied with...

"Sapphire & Steel ? Isn`t that the one where at the end, they......"

NOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo !!!

He was very apologetic for telling me how it ended, but I accidentally got revenge on him a couple of years ago.

I saw a video about the He-Man remake they`d made, and messaged him, and said...

"Have you heard about the new He-Man ? Can`t believe they went and......"

But I didn`t know he was planning to watch it with his wife, as he`d never mentioned he liked it ! He hasn`t watched it since !

We`re now both really careful over what we talk about, although there have been a couple of accidents, and I think he`s currently
winning 3-1 in the spoiler game we`ve had going ever since he told me the end of Sapphire & Steel !

I thought about watching the remake of Quantum Leap, but I think it`s on netflix, and I can`t log in to that.

I doubt it is on Netflix. I know that the content may differ, but here in Germany it´s not on Netflix, but on Joyn, which is not accessible where you live, I suppose. I would try amazon prime, I think I have seen it there too.

I have seen the first season already: It´s different, but I like it very much. Also, it´s not a reboot in the truest sense of the word. In fact, it´s a form of continuation; it takes place in the same universes history.

Friend of mine gave me his amazon login, I watched John Wick 4 on it, and couldn`t find anything
else, and logged out, and never went back. I`d need him here with his phone, to get in again.

The same person also gave me his netflix login, as did my neighbours across the road, but whenever
I try and log in, it tells me I`m not in the household, and won`t let me in.

I have heard that Netflix has restricted the sharing of accounts.

And not that long after they promoted sharing accounts, and encouraged people to do it.

Now they don`t care about that, and want everyone to pay for it.
